The Vegreville and District Akasu Palliative Care Society provides these confidential services:
- a community memorial service during the Christmas season for those who have suffered loss.
- companionship and support if requested by the patient, caregiver or family members
- bereavement comfort and support
- referral service to professional grief counselling
- bereavement support groups offered periodically
- grief, life change and loss workshops offered periodically
- maintain supplies for patient and family Palliative Care Rooms at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Vegreville.
Palliative Care Volunteers will:
- provide friendship and social interaction
- help write notes and letters
- read and share stories
- play cards or other games
- be a quiet presence in the room
- listen without judging or fixing issues that arise
- provide referral for Pastoral & Spiritual Care
Palliative Care Volunteers are unable to:
- provide personal care
- offer medical advice or treatment of any kind
- do housekeeping or laundry
