The Vegreville and District Akasu Palliative Care Society provides these confidential services:

  • a community memorial service during the Christmas season for those who have suffered loss.
  • companionship and support if requested by the patient, caregiver or family members
  • bereavement comfort and support
  • referral service to professional grief counselling
  • bereavement support groups offered periodically
  • grief, life change and loss workshops offered periodically
  • maintain supplies for patient and family Palliative Care Rooms at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Vegreville.

Palliative Care Volunteers will:

  • provide friendship and social interaction
  • help write notes and letters
  • read and share stories
  • play cards or other games
  • be a quiet presence in the room
  • listen without judging or fixing issues that arise
  • provide referral for Pastoral & Spiritual Care

Palliative Care Volunteers are unable to:

  • provide personal care
  • offer medical advice or treatment of any kind
  • do housekeeping or laundry
